Being more, not having more
-The Earth Charter Initiative

Donna has served and worked with various social and environmental organizations in Canada, the U.S. and Brazil.  Here are a few.

ECOSanibel
Donna served as Vice-President and later as President of Earth Charter of Sanibel Inc., known as ECOSanibel.  The organization was founded on the principles of the Earth Charter initiative, known as a Declaration of Interdependence. This organization's mission was to bring the values of the Earth Charter, based on a broad notion of sustainability, to the region of southwest Florida and the sanctuary island of Sanibel, among the first cities to endorse - then rescind - the Earth Charter.  Donna had the privilege to represent ECOSanibel at Earth Charter gatherings in Urbino, Italy, Amsterdam, Holland, and Burlington, VT.

While earning a masters in environmental sciences and later, Donna worked as communications specialist with Center founder
(her thesis advisor) Dr. Peter Blaze Corcoran to organize the inaugural Rachel Carson Distinguished Lecture which would become an annual campus and community highlight, and to which she contributed for several years.  Donna helped conceive and organize the first Terry Tempest Williams Student Dialogue about migrant worker issues in the region, as well as many special events related to the Earth Charter.

Her affiliation with the Center allowed Donna to collaborate with some of the leading public intellectuals of our time, including Terry Tempest Williams, David Orr, Alison Hawthorne Deming, Barbara Kingsolver, and Mary Evelyn Tucker and Steven Rockefeller, an Earth Charter Commissioner.

PeaceWomen International/
Mulheres pela Paz

During her time living in São Paulo, Brazil, during the filming of Yemanja: Wisdom form the African Heart of Brazil, Donna created bilingual videos with PeaceWomen International's Brazilian organization (Associação Mulheres pela Paz) to disseminate information and methods used in the organization's nationwide campaign to end violence against women.  This experience brought Donna into a network of extraordinary Brazil women leaders, including the organization's executive director who participated in Donna's graduate research.

Breast Cancer Action Montreal
After lending her energy to this organization led by courageous women pioneers exposing environmental links to cancer (now  Breast Cancer Action Quebec), Donna became newsletter writer, editor and board member. With BCAM, she organized a series of community workshops based on videotaped sessions at the World Conference on Breast Cancer.

Act Up!

Noticing the lack of creative outlets in her former Florida community for youth like her autistic son Gabriel, Donna approached Florida Repertory Theatre to change that. They ultimately co-created a theatre workshop class for youth with autism, known as "Act Up!"
Gabe became the poster child!

UQCN

While residing in Montreal, Quebec, Donna served on the Board of Trustees of the Quebec chapter of the well-known International Union of Nature Conservation (IUCN).

Among her most memorable moments with the organization was interviewing Robert Redford when he brought his film,  A River Runs Through It to Quebec City, for a fundraising event for UQCN.
